Rail tamping just got better for Leighton Swietelsky Rail

DataHawk is proud to announce that the first Trimble GEDO Vorsys Rail Survey Solution in Australia is now in customer hands.

In mid-2013, DataHawk delivered the first GEDO Vorsys system in the southern hemisphere to Leighton Swietelsky Rail (LSR), who were at the time operating in the Upper Hunter control region. Leighton Swietelsky is a joint venture between Leighton Contractors and Swietelsky to offer highly mechanised track maintenance and renewal in Australia – read more about that here.

Integration of this state-of-the-art rail technology into the LSR rail tamping process will assist their highly experienced crew in creating efficiencies in pre-project planning, rail tamping outcomes and final project handover documentation. Initial LSR projects targeted for integration of the Vorsys system include a 48 kilometre rail maintenance tamping project being undertaken for the ARTC in the Wagga region.

The Trimble GEDO Vorsys Solution allows for fast, accurate measurement of track condition – for both pre and post rail tamping survey – resulting in a significant productivity gain over other existing systems. The collected data is easily interrogated and interpreted by tamping crews, allowing for seamless on-site delivery into their onboard WIN ALC control system, increasing productivity and machine utilisation by around 30 percent. The precision and usability of the system makes it an ideal tool in conventional and high speed rail tamping. Joerg Schnabel, Technical Director for LSR, says of the system, “Incorporating the Vorsys and GEDO Tamp software into our rail tamping procedure results in significantly improved tamping ability and track quality at handover. The Front Offset (.vers) files produced are fed directly into our onboard control and allow for automation of the tamping process giving a very high quality result.” [Story continues under image.]
